Hi everyone: The Harvey's Lake loon chick has hatched! After monitoring the loon nest in the marsh since May 28, I saw a loon with the chick on its back on the lake  yesterday, June 21. From the amount of loon calling that people have heard the last few nights, it seems  that the chick probably hatched earlier this week.

Happy summer and Fourth of July weekend - Please click on the link to read full article

Hi everyone: Happy summer and Fourth of July weekend. Our loon pair hatched a chick and brought it out to the lake on Friday, June 24. A number of folks have reported seeing the family, with the chick sometimes swimming and sometimes on a parent's back. They were staying in the northwest corner of the lake but may be moving down the lake by now. As usual, try to keep a good distance away and avoid approaching in a power boat as the chick cannot swim and dive well initially and can be swamped by waves. CLICK READ MORE BELOW..

Loons Have Landed - Please click on the link to read full article

VCE biologist Eric Hanson has been working with loons for a long time (we won't say how long). Eric recently visited 9 territories and found 5 nests. "It's always a thrill to find a loon sitting on shore at the start of its month-long incubation period," exclaimed Hanson. On Zack Woods Pond, one pair was courting near an island nest site, with one bird cooing softly as it drifted near the shoreline. "Once I showed up to place some of the new nest warning signs, they became more curious and they obviously like the new easier-to-read text," said Hanson. Remember to stay clear of nesting areas during this critical time for loons.

THEFT AND ATTEMPTED BREAK IN AT HARVEY'S - Please click on the link to read full article

Just wanted to let everyone on the Lake know that over the past six months we've had two $1,000 paddle boards stolen right off our dock and at some point someone tried to use a pry-bar to break into our house through the lake front french doors. We have since installed an alarm tied to the State Police with several cameras, so we hope to catch the culprits should they try again! Anyway, just a heads up to everyone!
    Enjoy the warm weather!

Loon chick disappearance 7/2 - Please click on the link to read full article

    Hi everyone:
Usually I have happy news to report, such as hatching information or loons arriving the same day as ice out, but today the news is that one of the two loon chicks disappeared on July 2. Members of Bob Dufresne's family saw the adults and two chicks in front of their camp at 3:30 PM but at 7:30 the adults were seen with only one chick. Bob checked the area for the chick but there was no sign of it.
